Jessica Sallurday - Final Project Paragraph

For the final assignment, I want to photograph portraits of people, with a focus on facial expressions. This is a project I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’m drawn to this idea because a person’s face holds a lot of emotion and I’ve always found capturing those emotions really intriguing. While I prefer color, I think I’ll use black and white to help show contours in their faces. I’ll wait and see which looks better once I start fine tuning and printing.

Raymic Santana Final Project Paragraph

For my final project I'm planning to make a collage on my sneaker collection. Individual pictures of sneakers would be taken as a model possibly performing different poses. The pictures will be taken in different sceneries representing the name of the shoe or just admiring the location it's taken. Each sneaker has a unique name in which I plan on using it to my advantage to create the scenery. I feel that finding some particular props that'll represent the name of the shoes might be a challenge but overall will keep the images from being repetitive and boring. With that being said some sneakers have pointless names that will be difficult to represent with something so I'll take photographs of those admiring the scenery.

Quinn Ross - Final Paragraph project

I want to do human photography  because I think people are interesting. I am social and like human interaction. I want pictures to be nature based. Something in the scene is off in a way and there are various colors in the scene. I think the hardest part will be finding human. I wont get tired of it because I might combine my pictures of people with cars.

Kelsey Sullivan - Final Project Paragraph

For this project I will be expanding off of two of my pictures from the stylized photograph assignment (the self portrait and the picture of the legs). I want to explore working with self portraits and potentially incorporating in themes of body image and how I portray myself. I think this has a lot of potential to bring about conversation as well as make viewers uncomfortable in a good way. Additionally, having pictures looking at myself and maybe not always my face will invite viewers into the photos in a unique way. Through this, I feel like I have an opportunity to play around a lot with mirrors and maybe even lighting and props. Overall, I feel like this will be a good project for me not to only go more in depth with a different type of photography, but potentially learn more about myself.

Hannah Scibetta Final Portrait Paragraph

I decided I want to continue exploring the way photography can have make satirical comments on society. I really enjoyed photographing the food; however, I am a big fan of the rest of Martin Parr's work. I often find that I am someone who is able to take myself out of a situation and evaluate everything going on around me. Therefore, for this final project I am going to try and make a collection of street style (documentary) photos that capture the true humor in the various communities in my life. I am going to try and keep my camera on me at all times so that I won't miss a comedic moment. I really like the raw images Parr was able to create in Brighton, England and I feel like I can find those moments within my various friend groups and even within my family. I will have the opportunity to take pictures of my friends and I hanging out, sitting in class, traveling to other schools, etc. I will even be going home to a large Italian Easter that could have some great potential for photos. It may be slightly challenging considering there is little to no preparation for this style of photography; however, if I have my camera around my neck, I shouldn't have too many issues taking pictures. Also, this style of photography is less about the people themselves, but the situation that is being presented and the environment that is affecting them. I think I can have a lot of fun with this project because I will be able to take my pictures in a more on-the-go style, and I do not need a car to get me to my locations since it will be taking place everywhere I go regardless.

Emily Adar - Final Portfolio

I have been thinking about what I want to photograph for the rest of the semester and knew that it definitely would have a subject matter of people. During my Joyce Tennesson exploration I discovered how truly enamored I am with the human body and through Eric’s comments and my own realization, I now understand that for me to reach my full potential in photography, I need to be in charge of the entire scenario and all aspects of the photograph. I still want to photograph the human body, but I also want to include the mental and emotional aspect of the brain and how it functions as well. I have been having a really difficult year and I want to use this project as a sort of self expression about how the body looks on the outside and can be something completely different on the inside or how the mind and body can match. To execute this I want to have human models pose in front of a projector. Their physical body will represent how they look to others on the outside and the projection will portray what is going on in their mind/their psyche/subconscious. I think the project will range from lovely to somewhat disturbing images, and will me a chance for me to express myself, use multiple forms of media and lighting, and kinda just see where it takes me.

Eleanor Wing Theme

For the rest of the semester I want to devote my photography to the theme of “empty places”. This stems out of some of the work I was doing when emulating Joel Meyerowitz and I found myself really enjoying photographing places that look as though they should be full but are empty. With this, I want to focus specifically on “liminal places”, meaning throughways from one place to another — places like gas stations, stairwells, train stations, hotels etc. that don’t really have a definitive place outside their relationship to the place you are coming from or going to. I think these spaces have a sense of altered reality or strangeness and I aim to capture that feeling in my photographs. Subject-wise, I want to explore a wide variety of “empty places” including indoor and outdoor spaces that have a sense of eeriness surrounding them. I would like to take photos both during the day with natural light and at night with artificial light and experiment with different shutter speeds to create a sense of surrealism in these photos. I aim to not take photos that include people or evidence of people (cars, etc.) and want to focus on places that seem as though they should be inhabited but are not.

Colin Gallagher Paragraph

For my final photographs of the semester I would like to explore night photography in a way that creates an sense of mystery and drama through lights and shadows. I recently bought a tripod and wanted to use it to create images that require it. The content of my images will focus on the way light interacts with it's surroundings at night. I would also like to incorporate a model in some of these images to show the contrasts of light and dark. My main inspiration is the cinematography genre film noir which is based around the idea of creating a mood through black and white imagery. To achieve this style I will have to explore different locations that have strong light sources. This could be anything from street lights to the lights outside a building. I don't want these to just be images that have good contrasts of blacks and white, I want the contrasts to be used in a way that creates a mood and sense of mystery. Since I am only using available lights, one challenge I will face is finding areas around here where I can use these light effectively to portray the mood that I am going for.

Option 1-I would like to take portraits for my final photographs. I have not done many portraits this semester that I was proud of, so I would really like to make up for that. I have taken really nice staged and dramatic portraits in the past, especially in high school. The majority of portraits I took this semester were of young children, so I am thinking about experimenting with teenagers or people my age. I think it would be very enjoyable to photograph my friends, especially since many of them were excited about the possibility of modeling for me. One book I found in the library, but decided against doing at the time because I was more inexperienced with taking black and white architecture photos, was a collection of Annie Lebovitz photography. Her photos were very staged, and a combination of black and white and color. I want to keep my photos mostly staged and some model-like. I am also thinking about doing my photos mainly in black and white, since I really liked how my black and white architecture photos came out. I do want to experiment with some color photography, since I have had success with color portraits in the past. It may be challenging to schedule models, try not to make the photos too similar, and think of interesting places and poses to photograph, but I feel that this portrait photography will be very good practice for the magazine photography I will need to do next semester.

Option 2- I was intrigued by seeing some macro photography, in class and on my own time, so I am also considering doing this for my final photographs. I think close up photos are very interesting, because they show a lot of unexpected detail that you may not usually notice. I think I could have a wide array of options of things I could photograph, however it may be challenging to think of things to photograph ahead of time, so I think walking around with a camera and photographing things I come across will be a better plan. Although I do not have a macro lens, I think it will be interesting to try to mimic the macro effect with my lens. I am thinking about photographing every day objects you may not realize have interesting detail, nature, and possibly the human body.

Grant Hipkins - Final project paragraphs

For my final project I want to get back to something I enjoy photographing, which is people. I really enjoy how you can show so much about a person with only their body language. To put a little twist on it I want to photograph couples. Hopefully it will create more romanticized pictures yet still maintain that portrait style of learning something about the subject. So for instance if a couple is very giggly together I want a picture to represent that. I also didn’t want the pictures to seem staged or fake so I am going to do a more candid style rather than full on positioning the couple. This is not going to be the easiest task as now I will have to schedule around 3 people’s schedules and pick the right locations that not only describe the couple but are feasible to get to. I want the collection to really show the life of the couples as if you were “a fly on the wall” in their lives.

For my final portfolio project, I would like to focus my photographs on patterns. Pattern photography is something I think I could find interesting, especially when in search for the right images. To me pattern photography would be images with repetition. Any kind of repetition. Repetition could be shapes, color, or objects or any combination of those. And the photography I am looking to do does not have to be all regular patterns but also irregular patterns. I do not plan on focusing on one particular kind of pattern. Something like tree rings would be an example of a pattern or a brick walk way. I want to find unique things that you may not think to have a pattern, but yet there is one. Like seeds in a watermelon or products in the grocery aisles.  I think this could be challenging due to my limited resources (aka a car for traveling and getting out there) but I can make well with what I do have. For my photos to be more successful I think I will have to focus a lot on composition.

Christian Belker - Portfolio

As one of the original 13 Colonies, Pennsylvania has a lot of historical significance. If you pay close enough attention you can catch glimpses of these great pieces of history, but I feel many people overlook, have forgotten, or never learned about the history.  As a Pennsylvania native of 22 years (all my life) I find myself very interested in the history, and since I've started photographing I have found myself capturing what is left of the history here. For my final collection of images I envision telling a story of the Industrial Heritage of Pennsylvania.  Pennsylvania has long and rich history with iron production beginning in the 18th century, which led to the construction of hundreds of stone furnaces like the one you see on College Ave just outside of town. Although some have been removed or destroyed, many of these furnaces still exist today, even some are well preserved. To tell this historical story I would like to continue capturing iron furnaces across the state. This would  not only involve the well preserved and restored ones, but also through the different stages of decline and decay. One thing I can see that may pose an issue for me is the proximity between them, I may only get to one or two in a day due to traveling and lighting restrictions.

Nick Wilson - Final Collection Paragraph

For my final collection of images, my photographs will be in the Futurist Photodynamism style with a few modern twists. The goal of my photographs is to evoke and show as much emotion as possible. Some of the photos might also show the internalization of emotions through motion and contrast. For the style photos it was difficult at first to perfect the timing throughout the exposure, but now that I have a better grasp on how that works I would like to branch out and try more interesting techniques. The few twists that I plan on incorporating into this collection of photos is lighting specifically, colored light by way of color gels. The inclusion of colors will add even more visual appeal to the images as well as support contrast of emotions by having to different colors on two different sides of the photo. The hardest challenge that I am expecting is more technical. Getting the lights setup to shine correctly on both sides of the subject while showing motion at the same time may be difficult.

Victoria Anderson - Final Portfolio Paragraph

For my final portfolio of photographs I would like to go in a different direction than anything that I have done this semester and work on exploring the idea of the "self". After a lot of thought I came to acknowledge how uncomfortable I am being in front of the camera and I think that is something that comes through in my photographs. I want to explore the personal aspects of photography and how they translate through self portraits, but I also want to try and incorporate other aspects of my own life into those self portraits possibly with the use of text alongside the photographs. I think that this could be something that I photograph for the rest of the semester in an interesting way because of the fact that it is something completely new to me and I don't expect it to be easy. Self-portraiture will be challenging and hopefully allow me to produce some interesting and dynamic works that investigate myself as an individual but also create a new insight for the viewers.

Frank Kleinsorge_Final Photographs Paragraph

For my final photographs to finish out the semester, I would like to focus on unique framing. What I mean by this is both physical frames as well as framing within a composition. Looking back at my photographs over the course of the semester, I can tell that my most successful images were the ones with unique framing. I would like to work with a combination of framing people within another frame, but I would also like to further develop my photographs of window frames. The challenge of framing people within a frame of the composition is finding those unique places  where framing can look strong. Sometimes it can look really forced where as I want it to be a more natural look that you can still tell it was intentional. As for the windows, it was difficult finding a wide variety of window frames. The window frame itself is just as important as what the view sees through the window. One thing I want to make sure of is that each individual panel within a window has its own unique image. I realized that the reason I enjoyed my book from the library was because of the different framings it showed. Framing is a little bit of a broad category, which is why the subjects within the composition may not be as unified. The main focus is the framing itself.
