As
one of the original 13 Colonies, Pennsylvania has a lot of historical
significance. If you pay close enough attention you can catch glimpses of these
great pieces of history, but I feel many people overlook, have forgotten, or
never learned about the history. As a
Pennsylvania native of 22 years (all my life) I find myself very interested in
the history, and since I've started photographing I have found myself capturing
what is left of the history here. For my final collection of images I envision
telling a story of the Industrial Heritage of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania has long and rich history with
iron production beginning in the 18th century, which led to the construction of
hundreds of stone furnaces like the one you see on College Ave just outside of
town. Although some have been removed or destroyed, many of these furnaces
still exist today, even some are well preserved. To tell this historical story
I would like to continue capturing iron furnaces across the state. This
would not only involve the well
preserved and restored ones, but also through the different stages of decline
and decay. One thing I can see that may pose an issue for me is the proximity
between them, I may only get to one or two in a day due to traveling and
lighting restrictions.
