Nick Wilson - Photographer Paragraphs

Anton Giulio Bragaglia

Anton Giulio Bragaglia was an Italian photographer, but he also worked in other areas like film and theatre. He worked in most of the first half of the 20th century and s honed his artistic ability while working for his father's film production company. He is considered one of the leaders of the Italian Futurist photography. The influence of film and theatre are very apparent in the works of his photography. Bragaglia's most famous photographs are those that show motion of models that change their posture, position, or expression during the exposure of the picture. These works are inspired by film and theatre because many of them tell a narrative and are dramatic in nature. There is a certain level of mystery within his work due to the blurry effect that the movement of form produces. This blurry effect often leads to distortion of facial features, leaving them where they're not supposed to be. Gelatin silver print on paper seemed to be his preferred method of production which gives his photos a grainy, textured look that doesn't have color. Bragaglia's work combines all of the qualities of dynamism, drama, and mystery.

Nick Knight
Nick Knight is a British fashion photographer who attended the Arts University College At Bournemouth. He has worked with some of the most famous fashion houses like Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Alexander McQueen. Knight also directs music videos for artists such as Kanye West and Lady Gaga. Much of his photography challenges industry norms of subjects of beauty. His photography is characterized by striking clarity and vibrant colors, and many of the figures he photographs have some sort of unnatural, non-human-like quality to them. Texture manifest itself in his photos by way of fabric and flowy silk garments. Energy, dynamism, and movement are also features that much of his work display.

Sølve Sundsbo
Sølve Sundsbo is a Norwegian fashion photographer who works out of London. He was actually an assistant to Nick Knight (the same photographer mentioned above). Nick Knight's influence of style as a photographer is fairly clear in the work of Sundsbo. Sundsbo also utilizes an abstraction style where some of his models are used as frame where another photo may be placed, similar to a double exposure. In his collection of photographs titled An Expression of Beauty for Vogue, he used a close-ups of a model who is in moderate to high contrast who is placed in front of a colored gradient background. His photographs that are black and white have a high level of contrast often showing only one side of the model and hiding the other.
